Think of the farmer bringing the lambs to the slaughter: "We're going on holiday," she tells them.
The lambs excitedly chatter about plans for a dip in the sea. As they pass by the barrier troops who will shoot them if they try to retreat and they reach the zero line they realise they've been trolled.
From Ruschist Nazi leader Putin down to the lowly Ruschist Nazi squaddie: victims are always lied to. It puts the victim off guard. And arouses the perpetrator to trick 🪄their victims. "Look how we fooled those lambs," they cackle with joy as they sweep away the corpses.
When Ruschists claim Ukraine is planning this or that crime that Ruschist Nazis are planning - say, blowing the dam or exploding Zaporozhzhia nuclear power plant, Ukrainians aren't the lambs in this analogy. Ukrainians understand Russia's mind tricks.
We are the lambs.
Our naive fellow citizens who repeat the farmer's trolls "Oh, there's two sides to this. The lambs deserve to be slaughtered" or "Russians say the Ukrainians will explode the nuclear power plant. The Russians wouldn't say that if the Russians were planning to do it."
Here's some conversation recorded in "Babi Yar: Document in the Form of a Novel."
The evening before, notices by German Nazis had gone up around Kyiv telling Kyiv's Ukrainian Jewish community to assemble the next morning. Nobody understood what was to happen. USSR had been promoting German Nazi'ism so only one in ten of Kyiv's Ukrainian Jewish community had heard rumours of German antisemitism:
"The old people couldn't carry a great deal and they had no valuables...There were plenty of people on Turgenyev Street, and Artem Street was completely jammed. People with bundles, with prams, all sorts of trolleys and carts...
In some of the gateways German soldiers were standing and studying the people, especially the girls, as they went by...It was not until after midday that they reached the cemetery...
Dina overheard snatches of conversation in the crowd:
‘It's because of the war, the war! They're moving us away from it, somewhere quieter.'
‘And why are they only taking Jews?'
Some elderly woman suggested in a tone of great authority:
'Well, it's because they are related to the Germans as a people, and they have to be got away first.' ...
Like many others, up to this point she had thought there was a train standing there... There was more talk among all the noise and racket:
'Ah, our things will come along in the luggage van; we shall sort them out when we get there.'
'How are we ever going to sort out a pile of things like that?...
Dina was now really scared...
She couldn't admit to herself that it was the sound of people being shot. For one thing, there was such an enormous mass of people! Such things didn't happen. And then again - what was the point?...
Again, the older men used to tell stories about the Germans in the Ukraine in 1918...
'There are all sorts of Germans, but on the whole they are cultured, decent people; not your barbaric Russia, but Europe, with a European respect for order.'...
But, if it wasn't deportation, what on earth was going on?
Dina says that at that moment she felt only a sort of animal terror and her eyes seemed to cloud over-a state such as she had never known before...
They were taking people's warm clothes off them. A soldier came up to Dina and, in a trice and without a word, he deftly removed her coat.
At that point she rushed back. She sought out her old folk at the gate and told them what she had seen.
Her father said:
'Listen, daughter, we don't need you any more. Go away.'...
Dina managed to push her way through to the guard at the gates...
He demanded her identity card. She handed it to him.
He took one look at the entry after 'Nationality' and exclaimed:
'Hey-bloody Jewess! Get back!'
At that point Dina at last understood everything: they were being executed..."
When Russian Nazis accuse Ukrainians of being Nazis, Russian Nazis are on a rebranding exercise. They are the farmer telling the lambs’ parents and friends.
“No. We’re bringing the lambs to a holiday camp. The lambs have been very naughty. Don't worry we’ll soon render your lambs.”
The lambs’ friends’ fears are assuaged. Germany, France, England, America and millions of clever educated people between 2014-2022 fell for a Russian Nazi rebranding of Ukrainians as “Nazis.”
The only Nazis in Ukraine are Russian Nazis. Yet heads of state, foreign ministries, and even experts in Germany and Austria’s crimes against humanity between 1941 and 1945, were fed by Russian Nazi Disinfolklore.
Such Disinfolklore was laundered through a million legacy media articles and videos on Russian Nazi Disinfolklore characters like the “Azov Nazi” hypnotised Ukraine’s allies into passively watching Russian Nazis tee-up its genocide.
To be clear: the Ukrainian Nazi exists solely on the plane of Russian Nazi Disinfolklore.
The only purpose of this troll was to troll Ukraine’s allies into passively standing by while Russian Nazis executed their plan to destroy Ukrainians, Ukraineness, and Ukraine.
Russian Nazi Disinfolklore was so powerful that even though the Russian Nazi dictator explained dozens of times how Russian Nazis planned to genocide Ukrainians and Ukraine, like those in the queue for Babi Yar with Dina, no-one took it seriously (apart from Ukrainians and those like me who were diplomats in eastern Ukraine who reported this up our chains of command, only to be ignored).
This is what is at stake: our civilisation’s survival depends on us understanding Disinfolklore and how to counteract it with engaging Counter Disinfolklore.
Dina survived. Just.
Will we?
Will we survive, if we keep falling for Ruschist trolls?
If Russia blows the ZNPP and blames Ukraine, they might also hit Ukraine with a tactical nuke, in retaliation for their false flag.
Also if the ZNPP is burning, and still under Russian control, who is going to put the fire out, contain the reactors etc (like in the aftermath of Chernobyl).
Russia will probably just let it burn.
